The raised sides are what slide into the groove within the freezer box section.

Reply: If you look at the shelf (#23) you can see the raised wire on it. They look more like handles except they will only run fore and aft in the freezer boxes, either on top or underneath, depending how the shelves are mounted. They are inboard of the outer edge and would not fit into anything in our boxes. They look most like handles. Just curious as to what their purpose is. Are they possibly guides to keep a few smaller items in place?

Sorry about the confusion there! Yes, they are guides to help keep food in place during transit.
